Book Cover Design
For this project we were assigned to make three different book covers. One cover was to be type only. Another cover to be physical or to appear to be created physically. The third cover was the designers choice. The book covers must include the authors full name and the full title.
I picked the book Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë to design book covers for.
This is the finished result making my book covers.
Here is the process that lead me to the final result...
I started by looking at book covers that inspired me. By doing this it helped me to synthesis what I wanted to accomplish with my book cover. This helped me as I started sketching.
These are some of the sketches and ideas I came up with as I was researching for this project. For the typography book cover I wanted to try doing a scrip typeface so I played around with different ways to write the letter 'J'. I also looked into symbolism in this book the color red stood out to me so I wanted to include this. I also drew images that were important to the story line of the book.
These are the digital variations I created for my typography. I took away the cast shadow from the first composition and the border since it was distracting. I like how this cover turned out the best.
These are the compositions of my physical book covers. I had a harder time with this one since I dont use Photoshop much. I am excited to see what new skills I can learn as I continue to use Photoshop more frequently.
I played around with some of the scrip I had and added some embellishments. I didn'twant this cover to be overstated thought. I think the monochromatic red looks nice together.
Here are some mock-ups of the final results.
